CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was taking time to recognize one of their own for making such a positive impact in the community.
After Officer Rick Zoerb responded to a call at Southside Home Apartments recently, he met Erin Cunningham, a single mother of five down on her luck.
Cunningham works at a local supermarket, and although she is able to keep a roof over her family’s head, she could not afford to furnish the small apartment.
The department said that when Zoerb learned that the woman’s children had been sleeping on the floor for more than six months, his heart broke for the family.
He immediately got to work, made some calls and came up with a plan, teaming up with the nonprofit charity Beds for Kids to help get the family back on track.
Not only did Zoerb help furnish the apartment, he and Cunningham have also forged a strong relationship.
