CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for the suspects responsible for multiple attempted break-ins in Third Ward in uptown Charlotte last week.

Thomas Horne said one of the suspects walked through an unlocked back gate behind his home, before opening another unlocked door to the inside of his home.

“When I hear a door creaking open, the wind rushing in my face, something is wrong,” Horne said. “I saw somebody was literally coming through my door, and when I realized what was happening, yelled ‘Stop!’ got to my feet and slammed the door right behind them.”

Other neighbors were also victims early last Thursday morning. Many captured video of the suspects on their doorbell cameras between midnight and 3 a.m. Police believe the group is behind five other attempted break-ins, including one car break-in. The incidents happened on Clarkson Street and Greenleaf Avenue in Third Ward.

Sarah Neff said the suspects tried to get into her townhome.

“They were pulling on the door handles so I actually heard the wood shaking because even with the deadbolt on, it’s pretty loud,” Neff said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released pictures of the suspects in hopes of tracking them down. One suspect has a thin mustache and was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket.

“I know there is crime everywhere. It’s hard to be everywhere in one place but it seems to be picking up just way to quickly,” Neff said.

Horne admits that he’s making some changes after he left his backdoor open that morning and presented a crime of opportunity.

“Literally I was shaking when I woke up when I came to and called police and think about what had just happened. Its 1 a.m., and you feel like you’re protected by your own home,” Horne said.

If you recognize the suspects, call CMPD.
