Charlotte leaders to address predatory towing

Charlotte tow company owner charged with insurance fraud over fake towing invoice

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte leaders are expected to address predatory towing on Monday.

Charlotte’s city attorney is expected to brief the Safety Committee on Monday on steps the city can take to strengthen enforcement, improve accountability, and protect drivers.

Councilwoman Dimple Ajmera has said she would like the city to create a process in which the city can refer repeat offenders of predatory towing to the state attorney general’s office and increase the penalties.

Channel 9 has covered predatory towing practices around Charlotte extensively, with some drivers claiming they were charged thousands to get their vehicles back, and some claiming companies charged them an extra fee for calling police.
