Northlake Mall loses Dick’s Sporting Goods, other stores

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The struggles of bricks-and-mortar retailers and shopping malls have been well documented, even before the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated consumers’ shift toward buying more goods online. For visible evidence of the effect on the industry, one needs only to take a Sunday afternoon stroll through this Charlotte property.

Northlake Mall recently lost an anchor as Dick’s Sporting Goods quietly closed its two-level store there.

But the hulking anchor space is far from the only vacancy.
