Charlotte Pipe and Foundry gives clearer timeline for its move from spot near Uptown

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company has given a better timeline of when it will officially move.

The vice chair of the foundry’s board, Roddey Dowd, said they plan to cease operations at the foundry near Uptown sometime during the third quarter of 2023.

Many believe prime real estate near Uptown Charlotte could be the spot for the next Carolina Panthers stadium.

Dowd also mentioned they hope to have their new foundry in Stanly County in full operation by August of next year. Right now, that site is being built.

The location in Stanly County will sit on 500 acres, which is much larger than the current 55-acre site located off Interstate 77.

There’s still no official word on what the land near Uptown will become when the company moves away.
