Churches to start holding service outside after North Carolina’s limited reopening

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Now that North Carolina is in Phase 1 of Gov. Roy Cooper’s reopening plan, churches can start holding services outside.

St. Gabriel Church in Charlotte will hold communion services outside Sunday.

On Saturday, the church was open for a drive-thru confessional, like it’s been doing since the pandemic started.

Pastor Richard Sutter said a lot of people have been taking advantage of it.

“It has been non-stop where cars are just constantly coming,” said Sutter. “People have been extremely receptive, happy and you can see the peace and joy on their face as they depart.”

Saint Patrick Cathedral in Dilworth will hold outdoor Mass Sunday as well.
