CLOVER, S.C. — Clover School District is restricting student access to most artificial intelligence tools on district-issued devices, allowing only SchoolAI as part of a temporary pause announced Wednesday.
Effective Oct. 21, 2026, the district’s Technology team will begin blocking access to publicly available AI platforms to the best of its ability.
District officials said the pause is intended to strengthen expectations for responsible AI use, better protect student information, and give schools time to establish consistent guidelines for integrating the technology into classrooms.
The district said the restrictions are not permanent, though its technology filters cannot guarantee that every AI resource will be blocked.
During the pause, teachers are being asked to plan classroom activities involving AI around SchoolAI and not direct students to other AI platforms.
SchoolAI is available through ClassLink to middle and high school teachers and students, as well as elementary school teachers. Elementary students will not have access.
District innovation coaches will provide teachers with additional information about accessing SchoolAI, incorporating it into instruction, and obtaining support.
Clover School District said it will share more information about its next steps and opportunities for staff to participate as it continues developing its approach to AI in schools.
