CMPD continues investigation two weeks after man found dead in home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than two weeks after a mysterious homicide shocked a quiet Steele Creek community, Channel 9 obtained the 911 call when the victim, David Doyle, was found dead back on July 19.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives said a friend of Doyle's hadn't heard from him and went to his home on Plantation Woods Drive to check on him.

He called for help.

"I need police and medic I'm at his house and he's been attacked, unconscious," the caller said.  "Looks like he has his hands tied behind his back.  Looks like they attacked him with a knife."

CMPD Capt. Cecil Brisbon sat down only with Channel 9 on Tuesday, giving new details about their investigation.

"We don't feel that it was random we do feel like Mr. Doyle may have been targeted," Brisbon said.

He also talked about the condition of the inside of the home after investigators arrived and called the crime scene unusual.

"Just some of the things that they found when inside the residence weren't common either so,” he said.

Brisbon added that he couldn’t elaborate more.

Brisbon said they don't have a lot of information they can turn over to the public and no clear leads to go on. They're asking people in the community to come forward with any information.
