CHARLOTTE — Authorities arrested a homicide suspect after a man was found dead inside a Plaza Midwood warehouse Thursday night. The same suspect is connected to a double homicide in Monroe.
Officers in Charlotte were called to Central Avenue at about 10 p.m., not far from Hawthorne Lane, in a pool supply warehouse. Police say the cause of death was trauma-related.
Video showed a man, at about 2 p.m., show up in a Hyundai. The man spoke with the victim and showed him something in his backpack before stabbing him in the neck. The suspect demanded the victim’s car keys.
The suspect then stabbed the victim more times after he was given the keys. The suspect then stole the victim’s wallet and Honda Fit.
Coworkers say they found the victim inside the warehouse by himself.
The suspect, Adam Latif Mercado, 34, of Monroe, who was driving the Honda, was arrested in Anson County.
Mercado, who is also accused of killing two people in Monroe in the same night, was taken to the Mecklenburg County jail.
“It’s our mission to bring this case, like any other, to the fastest resolution we can,” CMPD Maj. Ryan Kendall said.
CMPD says officers are searching through cameras to try and get more information about what led up to the violence. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
“We can’t be everywhere at once, obviously we’d like to be,” Kendall said. “The people who live here, work here, are here all night, they see things, hear things that we don’t. It’s very important to have that help from the public.”
