CMPD identifies man hit, killed by car; driver charged with DWI

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after they said a man was hit and killed by a car Thursday night in east Charlotte.

The crash happened around 11:15 p.m.

Officers said 33-year-old Eric Love was hit by a car when he was crossing W.T. Harris Boulevard near Albemarle Road.

Police said Love died at the scene.

Investigators said a 2013 Volkswagen driven by Timothy Nicholson was speeding north on East W.T. Harris Boulevard when Love was crossing the street. Police said Love was not in a crosswalk and was walking against the traffic signals when he was hit.

Police said Nicholson stopped after the collision but showed signs of impairment. He was charged with DWI, felony death by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.
