CMPD investigating homicide after man shot in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A homicide investigation is underway in west Charlotte after a man was found shot in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers said they responded around 1:30 a.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call on Tuckaseegee Road, not far from Little Rock Road.

A man, later identified as Addison Ray Lipscomb, 33, was found shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC, CMPD said.

Homicide detectives were called and an investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors told Channel 9 they heard several gunshots before police responded to the scene.

CMPD told Channel 9′s Anthony Kustura that there there is not believed to be a threat to the community.

“Our homicide detectives are working with the Freedom (Division) patrol officers and our crime scene investigators to conduct a physical evidence search, as well as looking for any potential video that may be in the area,” said CMPD Major Ryan Butler. “As I said, it was called in by some residents who live nearby, so we do have the opportunity to speak to some witnesses that did hear gunshots before the 911 call.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call CMPD at 704-432-TIPS.
