4th suspect arrested, charged with murder of 20-year-old in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested an additional suspect for the murder of a man in east Charlotte that happened on Aug. 21, 2020.

A juvenile was charged Feb. 17 for the slaying of 20-year-old Zion Garcia.

Police also arrested Nyla Burnett, 18, Jalen Meggett, 21, and Jahmel Williams, 27, in August.

All four were charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit a robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Officers responded Friday night to Firelight Lane near Albemarle and North Sharon Amity roads after a shots-fired call. Officers did not find anything at the scene, officials said.

A few minutes later, police responded to a shooting call along Albemarle Road near Lawyers Road where they found Garcia who had been shot in the parking lot at the Valero convenience store. Someone drove Garcia from Firelight Lane to that store, police said.

Garcia was taken to a hospital where he died.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
