CHARLOTTE — A man has died after he was shot early Tuesday morning near a University City shopping center, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Officers said they were called just after 1 a.m. to Pinnacle Drive near West Mallard Creek Church Road. When they arrived, police said a witness took them to Fuaad Maerua Ali, 27, who had been shot several times.
Paramedics took Ali to the hospital, where he later died, CMPD said.
Crime tape and police cars with flashing lights were visible when Channel 9 arrived to the scene around 1:30 a.m. Officers could also be seen collecting evidence.
The scene remained active as of 5 a.m.
