Man, juvenile charged in shooting death of 16-year-old in Villa Heights neighborhood

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged two people in connection with a May homicide in the Villa Heights neighborhood of north Charlotte, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of someone being shot around 9:20 p.m. on May 13, along Allen Street, off Parkwood Avenue near The Plaza.

CMPD said they found 16-year-old Jeremiah Nathaniel Woodard-Pegues shot. MEDIC pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The following day, CMPD detectives charged 18-year-old Tracey Lamont Witherspoon Jr. for the murder.

On Friday, homicide investigators announced they’ve charged an additional juvenile male for his participation in the crime.

The juvenile was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property.

Police have not released any other details about the shooting.
