‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect turns self in after northwest Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE — Police said Wednesday that a man they said is responsible for a shooting that happened early May 8 in northwest Charlotte has turned himself in.

According to CMPD, officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 2 a.m. on Kentucky Avenue, near Honeywood Avenue. When they arrived, police found a man with a rifle standing near someone who had been shot.

The suspect, 41-year-old Michael Roach, ran to a nearby home, police said.

Officers moved the victim to a safe area so she could be treated for her injuries. The woman was seriously hurt but is expected to be OK, CMPD said. She was taken to the hospital by MEDIC while officers worked to secure the area where the shooting happened.

SWAT responded to help look for Roach but discovered that he had left the area, police said.

Channel 9 could see police using drones at the scene and heard officers using a megaphone to talk to someone inside nearby apartments.

Roach has an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, CMPD said. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
