Shooting leads to SWAT searching for suspect at apartments in SouthPark area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s SWAT Team was out in the SouthPark area Thursday morning along Governor Morrison Street searching an apartment for an armed suspect. Kannapolis Police told apartment management about a missing person that was possibly inside one of the units. It was just after 10 a.m. and someone from management went to look inside the unit and the suspect shot them.

That victim wasn’t seriously injured and ended up getting to a safe location.

Police didn’t know if the suspect was still inside, so they relocated residents to other nearby areas as SWAT investigated.

Officials stopped the search later in the day after finding out the suspect was not inside.

Detectives are still investigating this case and are asking anyone with more information on the identity or location of the suspect to call 911.
