CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is calling an emergency meeting on Friday to consider making May 1 an optional teacher workday.

About 1,400 teachers and staff have asked for the day off.
That’s the same day as a planned march in Raleigh demanding more investment in public education.
The only local district in our area to make a similar change so far is Kannapolis City Schools.
