CHARLOTTE — In a 200-page memo, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill questioned direct and indirect payments that Board Chair Stephanie Sneed authorized to Raki McGregor, an activist and former CMS executive in residence. The memo states those payments have totaled more than $1 million since the start of the 2024 school year.
McGregor’s wife also has contracts with CMS.
Hill alleges most board members did not know about the ins and outs of the payments.
9 Investigates is looking into those contractual complaints within the school district.
In addition, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney is asking the State Bureau of Investigation to find out if anyone broke the law by mishandling district money.
At 6 p.m., Channel 9’s Joe Bruno will break down the numbers and other parties involved. He is also looking into whether district policies were purposely ignored.
