UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A retired Union County teacher who lost her husband to COVID-19 last year received a touching gift from her husband’s former co-workers on Saturday morning.
Lisa Anthony said her husband’s former co-workers from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry showed up at her house to help her with yardwork in what they called “a day of caring.”
Reporter Genevieve Curtis spoke to Anthony when her husband, Donald, died last year, and Anthony said it had been overwhelming to manage all of the things her husband used to take care of, especially the yard.
On Saturday, it was her husband’s co-workers who cut the grass, put fresh mulch down, trimmed the hedges, and showed her how to use some of the tools.
“It was motivating because I told them, my husband has the equipment, but I never operated any of it,” Anthony said.
She said his co-workers offered to come back and continue helping her and honoring her husband.
“When somebody offers to do something and to help out, it means a lot. It just... I can’t tell you, inside my whole heart swells up,” Anthony said.
