FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Plans for a new veterans care home near Fort Bragg are moving forward after Congress approved a bipartisan bill that would allow for the $40 million development.
The old facility closed in early 2024 because of unsafe conditions from moisture and flooding. Many of the 85 veterans who lived there had just 60 days to relocate.
Veterans hope the new facility will offer some stability for them and their families.
“It put a financial strain on the families as well because they had to travel a way to see the family members in the nursing facilities that they were placed in,” Grilley Mitchell, president of the Cumberland County Veterans Council, told our partners in Raleigh WTVD.
With approval from Congress, all that’s left is a signature from President Donald Trump.
