Construction on west Charlotte firehouse begins

CHARLOTTE — Construction is underway on a new firehouse in west Charlotte.

The station will serve the growing River District community. First responders are currently in a temporary space.

The new fire station will help them respond to emergencies faster.

For the last decade, Channel 9 has stayed on top of the River District development.

The community project was first proposed and approved in 2016 to bring housing, shops and green space to west Charlotte.

It broke ground in 2023 and opened last September, welcoming its first residents.

More homes and shops are being built in the area.
