CORNELIUS, N.C. — After nearly three decades with the Cornelius Police Department, Chief David Baucom is retiring.
Baucom has led the department since 2022, but he has been with the agency since the beginning of his career in the 1990s.
During his time with the department, Baucom helped expand the K-9 unit, create the Crime Reduction Unit and establish the department’s co-responder program.
Baucom said his retirement is bittersweet.
His last day will be Dec. 31. The town is expected to announce plans next week for finding Cornelius’ next police chief.
