Cornelius Police names Jennifer Thompson new Chief of Police

CORNELIUS, N.C. — The Town of Cornelius has named Deputy Chief Jennifer Thompson as the next chief of police for the Cornelius Police Department.

Thompson has spent her entire law enforcement career with the department, serving the community for 25 years.

Thompson joined the department in 2001 as a Basic Law Enforcement Training cadet. Over her career, she advanced through the ranks of police officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and deputy chief, leading and supervising multiple divisions within the agency.

The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce named her Officer of the Year in 2008.

During her career with the agency, Thompson has focused on community service, employee support, and officer well-being.

The Town of Cornelius says it looks forward to this next chapter of leadership at the Cornelius Police Department.
