Cornelius officer charged with child sex-related crimes, sheriff’s office says

CORNELIUS, N.C. — A Cornelius Police Department officer arrested last month was charged with sex-related crimes involving a child, according to investigators.

Erickson Douglas Lee, 25, was arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on April 28 for charges out of York County. He resigned from his position effective immediately, according to Cornelius police.

According to York County jail records, Lee was charged with dissemination of obscene material to a person under the age of 18, assault and battery first-degree, and second and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. The alleged incidents took place in Lee’s home in Fort Mill, York County deputies said.

Investigators did not share why Lee was charged.

According to jail records, Lee was taken to the Mecklenburg County jail and was released on bond. Deputies said Lee later turned himself into York County authorities, where he remains in jail.

Lee had been working at the department since June 2021 as a patrol officer, the Cornelius police chief said.

There may be more charges in the case, authorities said.
