Crash closes south Charlotte road; power restored for more than 1,500 customers

CHARLOTTE — A driver crashed into a power pole overnight, forcing a busy south Charlotte road to shut down in both directions Wednesday morning.

The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. on South Boulevard at the intersection of Scaleybark Road.

A Channel 9 crew could see South Boulevard still blocked in both directions between Scaleybark Road and Woodlawn Road just before 4 a.m. Power lines and debris covered South Boulevard nearby.

Police did not have an immediate estimate of how long the road would be closed.

The crash caused almost 1,600 Duke Energy customers to lose power, but according to Duke’s outage map, service was restored just after 5:30 a.m.

Paramedics said they did not take anyone to the hospital because of the crash.

Channel 9 has reached out to police for more information.

There was no information immediately available on how the crash happened or if anyone would be charged.
