East Charlotte highway reopens after crash involving tanker

CHARLOTTE — A crash involving a tanker truck closed one side of Independence Boulevard in east Charlotte Friday morning. It reopened about five hours later.

The inbound lanes of Independence Boulevard were blocked starting at 3:30 a.m. after a car and tanker truck crashed near Pecan Avenue.

MEDIC said they didn’t respond to the crash.

Police told drivers to expect significant delays for the morning commute. The highway reopened around 8:45 a.m.

There’s no word on what caused the crash.
