CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced Thursday morning at a news conference that crime is down 17% citywide in the third quarter of the year.
The department confirmed that violent crime and property crime both went down during the three months.
“CMPD attributes these improvements to strategic deployment, increased officer visibility in high activity areas and strengthened partnerships across the community—efforts that continue to drive proactive policing and reduce crime citywide,” CMPD stated in a news release.
Despite the overall crime reduction, fatal violence in Mecklenburg County has increased this year. A total of 66 people have been killed in Mecklenburg County so far this year, representing a 10% rise in homicides.
