RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s movie industry is booming and new data shows it’s bringing in millions to the state.
The State Department of Commerce said in 2019, production companies spent more than $167 million in the state. That’s the highest it’s been in five years.

The locations managers said they chose Cabarrus County because many people seemed to have a connection to the Bakkers.
Three movies received more than $56 million in grants and that included the Eyes of Tammy Faye, which was filmed around Charlotte. It got $3.7 million from the state.
The movie focused on the dynamic rise and fall of Charlotte televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain starred in the film.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper recently revived the Advisory Council on Film, Television and Digital Streaming.
It advised Cooper on efforts to grow and develop North Carolina’s film industry and support work of the State Film Office.
