DAVIDSON, N.C. — Colleges and universities in the Charlotte region had endowments in 2025 that totaled almost $3 billion.
The List is led by Davidson College, which has an endowment approaching $1.5 billion for its 2,073 students. The private, liberal arts school in the northern Mecklenburg County community of Davidson is also the local area’s most selective college or university.
Three institutions in the region had endowments topping $375 million.
Catawba College saw the biggest percentage increase in its endowment, growing 468% from $68 million in 2019 to $386 million in 2024. That school in Salisbury also ranked as the fastest-growing college or university in North Carolina as its revenue doubled over a five-year period.
Several other colleges and universities saw double-digit growth in endowments during the past five years.
The List is ranked based on endowment value at the end of the most recent available fiscal year, generally 2025, though 2024 figures were used where 2025 data was unavailable.
