Davidson College’s new football stadium aims to transform athletics on campus

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The future of Davidson College’s athletic department can be found right next to the school’s field hockey field.

That’s where cranes, bulldozers, and a construction crew are continuing work on a $54.5 million football stadium and related projects that began last summer. Everything will be finished in time for the start of the 2024 football season, with some portions opening sooner. The lacrosse team should be playing on the new field by spring 2024, for example.

The ambitious upgrades provide an example of how college sports stadiums, fields, arenas, and training areas continue to grow and evolve, even at private, liberal arts colleges with enrollment of fewer than 2,000 students.
