Pizza delivery driver shot in attempted carjacking in south Charlotte, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — A Domino’s delivery driver was shot during an attempted carjacking in south Charlotte Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it happened at an apartment complex on Lodge South Circle, which is near the intersection of Arrowood Road and South Boulevard.

The victim, who hasn’t been identified yet, was treated for life-threatening injuries and taken to the hospital, according to MEDIC. Police said he was shot in the leg.

According to the police report for the shooting, the victim was a 74-year-old man.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene off East Arrowood Road as officers responded. Police blocked off an area in the parking lot with crime scene tape. Investigators were seen near a Domino’s delivery car and a pizza bag was spotted on the ground.

Channel 9 confirmed with another employee that the victim is a delivery driver for Domino’s. His co-workers said he was a man who always showed up to work and was one of their best delivery drivers.

They said they hope police will find the person who did this.

“It probably says a lot about our times,” said Yven Destin, a customer of the Domino’s on Park Road where the driver works.

Destin said he felt sorry for the driver and that delivering food can be dangerous.

Police haven’t said if anyone is in custody.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
