Man arrested, another on the run after police chase ends in south Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE — Deputies arrested one person but were still looking for another after a chase ended in a crash at a busy south Charlotte intersection Wednesday morning.

Union County deputies said they were called to the Murphy gas station in Indian Trail to check on a suspicious vehicle. A 911 caller told dispatchers he was possibly being followed by two men in a Chevy SUV. Deputies found the Chevy Suburban, which did not have a license plate, in the parking lot of the gas station and pulled behind it.

The Chevy sped away and a police pursuit began. The driver led police down U.S. Highway 74 and onto Interstate 485 before exiting.

At about 11 a.m., the chase ended when the driver lost control and hit a tree at the intersection of Providence and McKee roads in Charlotte.

Two men bailed from the Chevy and the driver, Treyvon Lacalvin Wallace, was arrested. The other man has not been caught.

Wallace was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony flee to elude, hit-and-run, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations.

The other suspect was wearing an orange hoodie and bright-colored camo pants.

Mecklenburg County EMS said two people were hurt in the crash but both are expected to be OK.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom was over the scene of the crash, which blocked a left-turn lane on Providence Road.
