LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been charged after deputies say he confessed to stabbing an 18-year-old to death Monday night at his home in Lincoln County.

Deputies responded just after 7:20 p.m. to a 911 call where a man had reportedly been stabbed at a home on North Carolina Highway 150 East.

When deputies got there, they said they found 18-year-old Cody David Souther on the porch of the home with a wound to the upper chest area. He was taken to Atrium Health - Lincoln where he was pronounced dead.

According to deputies, witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect who had fled the scene in a vehicle. The vehicle was later stopped near the intersection of Loop Road and NC Highway 150 East and 19-year-old Jacoby Alexander Brooks was taken into custody.

The Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the crime scene and continue the investigation. Deputies said Brooks agreed to speak with investigators and confessed to stabbing Souther.

It’s unclear what led to the stabbing, but Brooks reportedly lived in the home where the crime took place.

Brooks was charged with second degree murder and taken before a Lincoln County magistrate who placed him in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
