IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A witness came forward with a new tip that the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office hopes will help deputies solve an 80-year-old man’s shooting death.
Hugh Lee Moose was shot and killed Jan. 10 inside a home on Shiloh Road in Statesville.

A witness came forward and told deputies they saw a full-size SUV believed to be a Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition or similar style vehicle parked off the side of the road at Third Creek Bridge on Shiloh Road around 4:30-4:45 p.m. the day Moose was killed.
"He (the witness) is in the area often, and didn't recognize the vehicle, and never seen it before that day," Iredell County Sheriff's Office Major Andy Poteat said.
Deputies are attempting to locate the SUV and the person inside it. Investigators said it’s not clear at this time if it’s connected to the investigation.
Authorities released a composite sketch in January of a man who they said was seen in the area before the homicide. He was seen walking away from the area of Moose’s home within minutes of the first 911 call, they said.

The man is described as wearing Carhartt-style bibs, a toboggan and a backpack.
Anyone with information on the homicide or the vehicle are asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-928-9804.
