‘Didn’t know what to expect’: Teen mother finds helping hand thanks to local nonprofit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Pregnancy and raising a child can be a difficult time in a woman’s life, especially at a younger age.

One teen mom found a helping hand thanks to local nonprofit, Care Ring.

“It was scary. I was nervous. I didn’t know what to expect,” said Ashley Espana, who was 16 years old when she had her baby. “They do the best for you they try to. They treat you like you are one person in the whole program when we know there are other people in the program.”

>> In the video at the top of the page, Channel 9′s Damany Lewis shares Espana’s journey and the valuable resource helping women just like her.
