Driver arrested after bicyclist dies in hit-and-run collision in Lancaster County

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A driver is facing felony charges after a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist dead this weekend in Lancaster County, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Springdale Road near Summit Avenue. A bicyclist was traveling south on Springdale Road when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then left the scene, according to highway patrol.

Troopers said the bicyclist, 59-year-old Lamont Stewart, died at the scene.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said 30-year-old Bryon Mackey was arrested and charged for leaving the scene with death, driving with a suspended license, and reckless homicide.
