NEWTON, N.C. — Police in Newton say an impaired driver is to blame for damage at a historic cemetery in Catawba County.
Some gravestones were broken in half at Old St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery after they say a driver went off the road last Friday.
The church posted that there is significant damage to several gravestones and some markers were knocked over.
The church next to the cemetery dates back to the early 1800’s.
Old St. Paul’s Lutheran hopes to work with the driver’s insurance company to repair the broken headstones.
