Duke Energy recommends reducing electricity usage as heat could drive up power bills

How much new Duke Energy CEO will make

CHARLOTTE — Duke Energy is recommending customers reduce their energy usage as high heat and humidity drive up demand and increase bills.

Duke Energy said that by July 4, electricity demand across the state rose 43% above normal, our sister station in Raleigh, WTVD, reported.

As a result, Duke Energy is now urging customers to ensure their air filters are clean and their HVAC units have been properly serviced.

The utility also advised customers to close blinds and curtains during the hottest parts of the day and refrain from using ovens, dryers and other heat-producing appliances during peak afternoon hours.

Duke Energy says customers should set their thermostats to the highest possible temperature and rely on fans to help ease some of the heat.

According to the company, customers will soon see the effects of this summer’s heat reflected on their monthly bills. The company said customers can spread out payments over several months or adjust their due dates.
