Elderly man found safe after walking away from home in wintry conditions

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews were able to find an elderly man who wandered away from his home early Sunday in north Charlotte.

Police said the 89-year-old, who suffers from dementia, became confused and walked away from his home on Old Potters Road before 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters found the man before 6 a.m., walking along Sugar Creek Road, and reunited him with his family.

He was checked out by first responders due to the fact he was outside for so long in the winter weather elements.
