Emails reveal COVID confusion, riots and staff shortages in Mecklenburg County jail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 put a records request into the Mecklenburg County jail and the emails we received show a variety of employee concerns.

“The facility is becoming increasingly dangerous ...,” one email to Sheriff Garry McFadden stated, sent after a pod of residents was “... even threatening the possibility of taking an officer hostage ...”
