Father accused of causing 1-year-old boy’s third-degree burns, investigators say

LENOIR, N.C. — A man is in custody after a baby boy suffered third-degree burns from hot bathwater, Caldwell County investigators said.

Police said it happened at the Stonewall Square apartments in Lenoir.

Lenoir police said they were called to the apartments on Monday. They discovered the boy’s father, Javion Carr, 20, had put him in a bathtub with hot water, keeping him in the bath for 7 to 8 minutes before taking him out, investigators said.

According to the arrest warrant, the 1-year-old had third-degree burns to three different areas of his lower body. Police said medical officials confirmed the boy was seriously burned on 29% of his body. He’s in stable condition at a hospital in Winston-Salem.

Carr told investigators he was high.

The warrant states: “When investigators with Lenoir PD arrived at the apartment and executed a search warrant, they discovered marijuana in and around the bathroom. Investigators observed Mr. Carr to be impaired and it was admitted he had smoked marijuana.”

A warrant was issued on Tuesday for Carr’s arrest. He is charged with one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury and is in custody with a $25,000 bond.

No further information was released.
