Feds could seize local drug house located near several schools

INDIAN LAND, S.C. — The federal government could seize a house in Indian Land two years after local law enforcement raided it.

The house on Dobys Bridge Road is next to several schools. In 2019, officers said they raided the house, which is close to several schools, and found drugs, cash and guns.

Federal officials argue they can legally take the house due to the alleged drug activity that has gone on there. Some people in the community have said the action could help keep the growing area safe.

During the raid, officers arrested Shannon Layne Myers and charged him as an accessory to a murder that happened in Camden in September 2019.

Court documents reveal details that said Myers is an “Aryan Nation gang member,” and he was “involved with trafficking methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, mushrooms, prescription narcotics and marijuana.”

“Myers was suspected of disposing of murder victims’ bodies related to narcotics trafficking,” according to court documents.

The court filing said the U.S. seeks forfeiture of the property based on the illegal activity.

“I think it’s safe that they’re stepping in and making sure that none of this is going on around schools and helping the children out,” parent Brittany Dinicola said.

Court documents indicate that Myers lived in the house and is not the owner.

Channel 9 reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice for more information regarding the process, but the agencies have not returned our call.
