GASTONIA, N.C. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted the Gastonia Fire Department over $102,000 to improve safety at four fire stations in town.
Four stations without fire alarms will use the money from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program to install them. Those stations were built before North Carolina’s fire code requirements.
The new systems will add protection for the firefighters living and working there.
“Keeping our firefighters safe doesn’t stop when they return to the fire station,” Brad Best, Gastonia Fire Chief, said. “This grant will allow us to make important improvements to the safety systems in four of our stations and provide our personnel with an added level of protection while they are on duty.”
