Police identify woman found shot to death inside Kannapolis home; man arrested

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police have arrested a man they said shot and killed a woman Tuesday afternoon in Kannapolis.

Officers responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a home on Packard Avenue after reports of an assault. When they arrived, police found the victim, 49-year-old Yulonda Hollis, inside the house suffering from a gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday morning, police said they had arrested 26-year-old Demontrel Murphy in High Point. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Murphy was known to have a relationship with Hollis’ daughter, police said.

No further information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
