Fiance of man killed at gas station by US Marshals wants transparent investigation

CHARLOTTE — The fiancé of a man shot and killed two months ago by a U.S Marshall in east Charlotte is speaking out, through her attorney, and asking for a full and transparent investigation into the shooting.

The woman, who did not want to give her name, was at a news conference Thursday morning with her lawyer.

She was at the Citgo gas station at Parkwood Avenue and The Plaza on March 23 when agents with a federal task force pulled up and tried to arrest her fiancé, Frankie Jennings.

Her attorney, Dominique Camm, said Jennings had one hand on the steering wheel of his car and his other hand in the air when the Marshal fired two shots.

“And the escalation from the agents pulling up and ambushing Mr. Jennings happened very quickly -- in a matter of seconds,” Camm said. “She does not recall any blue lights being activated. In those few seconds, Mr. Jennings was shot multiple times while sitting behind the driver seat.”

The attorney also said task force members did not wear body cameras, and he called for police to release surveillance video from the gas station from that morning.

CMPD said their officers were not involved the confrontation. They handled the shooting investigation and the evidence, which was turned over to the district attorney’s office this week. The DA’s office will decide if the Marshal will face charges.
