Former employee charged with rape at assisted-living facility

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — An employee at an assisted living center was arrested Tuesday and accused of rape, according to the Mooresville Police Department.

Ernest McDonald Beatty Jr. was charged him with three counts of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree sexual offense for the assault of a patient at Crown Colony Assisted Living on Commercial Drive in Mooresville.

Beatty, who is in his 50s, was an employee and licensed CNA at the facility. Iredell County DSS Adult Protective Services was notified.

The victim was a woman in her 60s, officials said. Police said evidence pointed to Beatty, who eventually confessed to the crime.

"We did have some pretty clear indication of who the suspect was and, working with the administration, we were able to identify the suspect really quickly," Gerald Childress with the Mooresville police said.

Beatty is being held in the Iredell County Jail on a $300,000 secured bond.

Channel 9 called Crown Colony several times Wednesday but has not heard back from the director.
