Police said Kelly and Stephen, 25, were involved in a road rage incident on U.s 421 in Roaring River, a community about 7 miles east of Wilkesboro. When they stopped, they were shot.
The gunman told police that the pair pulled a gun on him.
No arrests have been made, but according to the paper, the suspected shooter was questioned.
Investigators are still talking with prosecutors about possible charges.
