BELMONT, N.C. — Police are asking whether there could be other victims connected to a former Gaston County YMCA employee now charged with kidnapping and indecent liberties with a minor.
Operators of the McGill YMCA in Belmont have notified members that Akinyele Lumumba Crawford no longer works there.
Investigators say Crawford developed a relationship with a minor during his time at the YMCA, leading to the charges.
Officials say the alleged incident did not happen at the Y.
They’re encouraging anyone who may have had concerning or inappropriate interactions to contact law enforcement.
