Friends remember Cornelius man who died scuba diving

CORNELIUS, N.C. — Friends of a Cornelius man who died over the holiday weekend remembered him Tuesday.

Police said Frederick Twogood died while scuba diving in Puerto Rico.

"He was just always adventurous, always had some story about where he'd been," said Lisa Panepinto.

Pictures of Twogood exploring foreign lands were proudly posted on his Facebook page.

Police said on Monday the 66-year-old was scuba diving off the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico with his son. They said Twogood started having breathing problems and died before paramedics arrived.

Panepinto and her husband were friends with Twogood. She said he worked for Duke Energy.

Eyewitness News found a LinkedIn profile that appeared to be for Twogood, showing that he worked at Duke's McGuire Nuclear Station as an engineer since 2006.

Friends said the couple lived together in a lakefront Cornelius subdivision.

"They just loved life. They just grabbed onto it and did anything that came their way," said Panepinto.
