GASTONIA, N.C. — The city of Gastonia wants to hear from neighbors about what a possible passenger rail station should look like for its downtown area.

The city is doing a study on how a new station could better connect people to jobs, shops, healthcare facilities and more.

Open house workshops are set for Monday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Gastonia currently has two trains that run through its Amtrak Station.

In Charlotte, plans for a future Silver Line light rail originally called for the route to go into Gaston County at Belmont. Transportation leaders slashed that plan last year, reducing the route from the airport to Bojangles Coliseum.

The Silver Line project is still decades away from becoming a reality.
